CBD (Cannabidiol)
– INCI Name: CANNABIDIOL
– Origin: Vegetable
Cannabidiol (CBD) is a non-psychoactive compound from the hemp plant (Cannabis sativa). The use of CBD in cosmetics has grown especially in the last two decades, driven by its therapeutic potential without the psychoactive effects of THC.
Its structure is similar to that of the endocannabinoids in our body, so it interacts with our cannabinoid receptors and modulates some of their functions.
Properties of CBD in Topical Use:
1. Anti-inflammatory: This makes it an effective ingredient for relieving skin conditions such as acne, eczema, psoriasis and rosacea, where inflammation is a major factor.
2. Antioxidant: CBD helps neutralise free radicals responsible for premature skin ageing, helping to prevent the appearance of wrinkles, fine lines and loss of elasticity.
3. Soothing and calming: Its calming action soothes irritated skin and can help reduce stress and anxiety. It is useful for relieving itching and irritation in sensitive or dry skin.
4. Moisturising: CBD helps to maintain skin hydration, which makes it beneficial for both dry and oily skin.
5. Sebum regulation and acne control: CBD can balance sebum production, which helps prevent clogged pores and the formation of acne breakouts.
6. Pain relief: Scientific studies show that topically applied CBD can have a beneficial effect on pain.
